LJMU Student Discovery Internships: Sustainable Fashion Project Opportunity

Roberts Recycling is pleased to be participating once again in the Liverpool John Moores University Discovery Internship Programme.

Roberts Recycling is pleased to be participating once again in the Liverpool John Moores University Discovery Internship Programme, offering a unique opportunity for a final-year student to gain real-world experience in sustainable fashion, community engagement and creative project delivery.

LJMU DISCOVERY INTERNSHIP

The Sustainable Fashion Project Intern role will support an exciting education partnership being delivered with Hope Academy (St Helens) and St Helens Council, culminating in a student-led upcycled fashion show in July 2026.

The internship will give a Level 6 undergraduate student the opportunity to work alongside the Roberts Recycling Community and Partnerships team, helping deliver workshops, support creative activities and assist in planning the final fashion show event.

This hands-on project is designed to give students experience across a number of areas including:

  • Sustainable fashion and textile reuse
  • Creative workshop support and youth engagement
  • Event planning and coordination
  • Digital storytelling and social media content
  • Community partnership collaboration

The role is ideal for students interested in fashion, textiles, sustainability, creative arts, education or event management, and offers valuable experience working within a real circular economy project.

A Collaborative Project

Alongside the internship hosted by Roberts Recycling, project partner Seamster and Shepherd have also advertised a complementary opportunity through the same programme.

Their Fashion Design and Manufacturing Assistant Intern role will focus on the technical and creative development of garments for the fashion show, supporting students in transforming donated textiles into wearable pieces.

Together, these two internships will help bring the project to life, combining creative design, sustainable materials and community engagement to showcase how clothing can be reused, redesigned and kept in circulation.
