Roberts invest in high-capacity non-textile recycling baler
Roberts Recycling are excited to announce the newest addition at Halebank, our game-changing baler who we’ve called Big Blue.
Why this is important?
At Roberts Recycling, we are proud to be a multi-material recyclers, helping our partners manage their packaging waste efficiently, keeping materials in circulation.
Every week, we see thousands of cardboard boxes arrive at our warehouses, all from various sources such as shipping returns and overstocks. By upgrading our equipment, we want to improve the quality of the bales and speed up the process, making recycling faster and supporting our 0% to landfill mission.

Cardboard isn’t the only non-textile Big Blue is designed to deal with. From discarded hangers to broken pallets, the baler really allows us to compact a wide range of materials, maximalising efficiency and impact.
How does it work?
Our new automated baler works by using powerful hydraulic pressure, compressing and baling mass amounts of all kinds of non-textiles into organised, transportable bundles. Once compacted, they are then loaded up and transported to specialist recycling facilities, where the cardboard is given a new purpose and a second life!

Hear it from John
Want to know more about why this investment was so important? Check out Director John Robert’s video below, where he explains the importance of Big Blue for Roberts Recycling and the partners we work with.
“We’re often asked what happens to the non-textile waste generated other than the actual textiles themselves,” says John. “This will be the baler that continues to knock out bales of such as cotton or polyester, which are tied off automatically, ready for onward recycling.”
