Major New Partnership – St Helens Council Visit HQ

This week we were delighted to welcome a representative team from St Helens Borough Council to Roberts Recycling HQ to mark the beginning of an exciting and impactful new partnership.

It was a pleasure to host Cllr Tracy Dickinson, Director of Operations, Trevor Nicoll, Head of Climate, Waste and Open Spaces Andy Cutts MCIWM, Recycling Officer Suzanne Knott, and members of the council’s environmental services team for a behind-the-scenes tour of our Halebank facilities, where they learned more about our reuse-first operations, innovative processing systems and long-standing commitment to supporting our surrounding communities.

Following a competitive and publicly advertised tender process open to providers across the UK, Roberts Recycling were awarded the contract to provide and manage textile recycling banks across the borough. We were selected based on receiving the highest overall score, a reflection of our strong environmental credentials, operational standards and wider social impact efforts.

This work forms part of the council’s St Helens Borough Recycles initiative, aimed at tackling the 2,800 tonnes of textiles currently being sent to landfill via brown bins in the borough each year.

Public Recycling Banks Places Across St Helens

To kick off this partnership, 18 Roberts Recycling Clothing Banks have now been installed across key locations in the borough, providing local residents with convenient, high-quality facilities to donate clean, unwanted clothing and shoes.

All banks are clearly signposted in green and carry Roberts Recycling contact details for any public enquiries. Locations include many car parks including Birchley Street, Central Street, North John Street, Sutton Park Drive, and other high areas across Newton-le-Willows, Rainhill, Thatto Heath and beyond.

These banks are open to the public and accessible year-round, with more recycling locations set to follow in the coming months, ensuring that textile recycling becomes even more accessible to residents in every part of the borough.

TRACKING RECYCLING PERFORMANCE WITH SMART TECHNOLOGY

Public members can scan a QR code placed on each bank to visit a dedicated webpage for each bank, where you can find total recycling figures for this specific bank and how to request a collection should the bank be nearing full capacity.

A Trusted, Award-Winning Provider

With over 15 years of experience in the textile recycling sector, Roberts Recycling is proud to bring its expertise and community-first approach to St Helens. Earlier this year, we were awarded our third King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, one of the UK’s most prestigious honours for business.

This new contract builds on our wider work supporting schools, community groups, and businesses across the UK to recycle textiles responsibly, divert waste from landfill, and promote reuse as a better environmental outcome than traditional recycling.

“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with St Helens Borough Council and look forward to supporting the community of St Helens, increasing local recycling rates through high-quality infrastructure and access to clothing banks. Through our Recycle 4 School programme, we support many local schools across the region to recycle, so it’s great to build on this momentum and continue to drive positive, sustainable changes.”

Simon Roberts, Director at Roberts Recycling
