Director Simon joins Oxfam’s innovation celebration

One of our Directors Simon Roberts had the pleasure of attending Oxfam’s Upcycle Lab Project Exhibition in Batley. The Exhibition showcased striking pieces from the students of Leeds Beckett University, all made from non-renewable textiles that would’ve otherwise went to landfill.

The jacket Simon is wearing below was made from five curtains, two shirts and a bed sheet. It fit perfect, so of course he bought it!

This event really showed how fashion can be reimagined with sustainability in mind, not only highlighting the creativity of the next generation of fashion designers, but also the importance of new purpose for old materials.

Why Upcycling Matters

Upcycling not only helps keep textiles in use for longer, it reduces the amount that ends up at the landfill. Here at Roberts Recycling we have a 0% landfill mission, by reimagining fabrics that can’t be re-worn, projects like Oxfam’s Upcycle Lab, show how creativity can turn waste into something valuable.

Upcycling is a simple but powerful way to cut down on waste. It is incredibly important that we continue to talk about it and support the global circulation of textiles in every way we can.

Ongoing with Oxfam
