Knowsley Council’s official textile recycling partner, Roberts Recycling, recently delivered sustainability assemblies at Plantation Primary School in Halewood, supporting more than 200 young people to learn about textile recycling.
Supported by Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, and joined by Knowsley Council’s Recycling Engagement Team, Grace Barlow and Marvin Critchley, Roberts Recycling Director Paul Roberts and Head of Marketing Lewis Webster delivered fun and informative assemblies highlighting the importance of recycling textiles across the borough and how young people can make a difference.

Students learned about the journey of textiles and how small actions can have a positive impact within their communities. The school also organised a clothing collection drive to coincide with the visit, gathering an impressive 427 kilograms of unwanted clothing, raising funds for the school through Roberts Recycling’s Recycle 4 School programme in the process.
Neil Jones, Deputy Headteacher at Plantation Primary School, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Roberts Recycling and Knowsley Council into our school and join their recycling programme. The assemblies were engaging and thought-provoking, and our students thoroughly enjoyed taking part. The programme has already inspired them to think differently about recycling and how they can make a positive contribution.”

Paul Roberts, Director at Roberts Recycling, said:
“It was fantastic to visit Plantation Primary School and deliver our Textile Champions assemblies alongside Knowsley Council and Cllr Shelley Powell. The students showed real enthusiasm for sustainability and their clothing collection was an outstanding achievement.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, added:
“It was great to go along to Plantation Primary School to support our recycling education programme and share the important message about what can be recycled. The textile collection from the pupils was amazing – thank you to everyone who contributed and keep up the good work!”
