On Friday 20 February, the Roberts Recycling duo Marketing Lead Lewis Webster and Operations Manager Kevin were delighted to deliver a guest talk at Sewing Connections, a community organisation of sewing enthusiasts and passionate upcyclers based in Netherton, Liverpool.
With more than 20 members in attendance to hear about the history of Roberts Recycling and our work as specialists in clothing and textile recycling, we were grateful for the warm welcome and the thoughtful, informed questions from the audience.

The session explored the scale of the textile waste challenge, the realities of global reuse and recycling markets, and how innovation at Roberts Recycling, including developments such as Textile to MDF, is helping shape the future of textile sustainability.
Sewing Connection founders Cathy Morris and Paula Buckley invited us to share professional insight into what happens to clothing once it is placed in one of our textile recycling banks, and how our circular reuse pathways and export routes support responsible redistribution across global markets.
Their commitment to giving garments a second life through sewing and upcycling closely mirrors our commitment to keeping textiles in circulation through responsible reuse and recycling solutions. That shared purpose made this collaborative event a natural fit.
Following the talk, Lewis said:
“With over 40 years of combined experience in the textile industry, Cathy and Paula have created a welcoming creative space where sustainability and sewing go hand in hand. It was a privilege to contribute to that environment, sharing insights into our recycling and reuse infrastructure behind the scenes.”
