200 students Inspired to Recycle at St Michael and All Angels

More than 200 pupils at St Michael and All Angels Catholic Primary School in Wirral took part in a sustainability assembly today, focused on the environmental impact of textile waste and the importance of reusing and recycling.

The Textile Champions assembly was delivered by Paul Roberts, Director at Roberts Recycling Ltd, and Marketing Lead Lewis Webster. The visit marked the launch of the school’s involvement in the Recycle 4 School programme, which enables schools to raise funds through textile recycling while promoting environmental awareness.

The session introduced pupils to the global issue of clothing waste and invited them to think about how everyday actions – such as rewearing clothes, donating to textile banks and avoiding unnecessary clothing purchases – can have a positive impact. Students explored how donated items are sorted for reuse and exported around the world and how non-rewearable textiles can be transformed into new products through recycling.

The school’s Student Eco Group also shared a presentation of their own, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and setting out their plans to lead a Summer of Sustainability campaign across the school.

Roberts Recycling has delivered sustainability education sessions to schools across the region as part of its commitment to inspiring the next generation, reaching more than 750 students in the past seven months.

Providing accessible, age-appropriate assemblies that complement the curriculum and empower young people to become environmental changemakers, Roberts Recycling are keen to further support their community partners in 2025.

Paul Roberts, Director at Roberts Recycling Ltd, said:

“It was absolutely brilliant to deliver our recycling education assembly today to such an engaged group of students. It’s fantastic to be in a position to support young people and communities like this.

A huge thank you to Miss McCallion for championing sustainability at St Michael and All Angels and for her role in joining the Recycle 4 School programme, helping to embed recycling across the school that will raise vital funds for the school’s eco projects. Well done to the student Eco Group who also presented to the school. We were proud to support their research, and hope that one day many of these young faces will choose a career in sustainability.”
