5 Ways You Can Help Bees, This World Bee Day

Roberts Recycling has continued its commitment to sustainability and education by sharing simple, effective ways for communities to support pollinators this World Bee Day. As a textile recycling company and proud beekeepers, we understand how closely connected bees are to the health of our planet, and how small changes in our daily lives can help protect them.

Bees are vital to ecosystems, agriculture, and biodiversity. With pollinator populations declining due to habitat loss, pollution, and pesticide use, raising awareness has never been more important.

This World Bee Day, we’re encouraging families, schools, and local communities to take action with these five simple steps:

1. Plant Bee-Friendly Flower

Even a small patch of garden, window box, or community space planted with native wildflowers can make a difference. Bees love lavender, borage, thyme, and other pollinator-friendly plants, choose pesticide-free varieties to keep their food safe.

2. Put Out Water for Bees

Bees need water to stay hydrated and keep their hives healthy. A shallow dish filled with clean water and pebbles gives them a safe place to land and drink, perfect for warmer months.

3. Reuse, Repair & Recycle Your Clothes

Fast fashion contributes to environmental degradation that impacts bee habitats. By repairing what you already own, choosing secondhand, or recycling unwanted textiles through programmes like Recycle 4 School, you reduce waste and protect the natural world bees depend on.

4. Avoid Harmful Chemicals

Switching to natural, non-toxic cleaning products and gardening solutions protects not just bees but all forms of life around us. Reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides, weed killers and artificial fabric softeners where possible.

5. Support Local Beekeepers & Organic Growers

Buying local honey or organic produce helps protect pollinator-friendly farming practices and supports small businesses that care for bees responsibly.

As part of our commitment to sustainability and community education, we’ve created a free Bee Activity Sheet that’s perfect for classrooms and families who want to learn more about how to help bees. It’s a fun and educational way to get children involved in protecting the planet. View it below.
