The highest specification boards ever produced using fibre from non-rewearable textiles as a substitute for virgin timber in MDF production have now arrived.
Developed in partnership with FAB Materials, this pilot marks a significant step forward in proving how low-grade textile waste can be transformed into high-performance, commercially viable construction materials.

Pictured alongside FAB Materials CEO John Somerville, the delivery represents more than a successful test run. It demonstrates that textile waste, traditionally considered difficult to reuse, can be redirected into scalable, high-value manufacturing applications.
From Non-Rewearable Textiles to Board MATERIAL
Globally, millions of tonnes of textiles are deemed non-rewearable each year. While reuse remains the priority, a significant proportion of collected material requires alternative recovery pathways.
Through this collaboration, fibre extracted from post-consumer, non-rewearable textiles has been processed and engineered into MDF board products that meet high specification standards, reducing reliance on virgin timber resources.
This innovation supports:
- Reduced demand for virgin wood fibre
- Diversion of low-grade textiles from landfill or energy recovery
- Lower embodied carbon potential in board manufacturing
- A scalable circular solution for fashion and retail brands
A Shared Vision for Circular Manufacturing
Roberts Recycling Ltd’s partnership with FAB Materials is built on a shared belief in creating a long-term, ethical and commercially viable pathway for fashion brands and manufacturers seeking innovative solutions for textile waste.
This pilot phase validates the material performance. The next phase will focus on scaling production and working directly with forward-thinking brands who want to embed circular material solutions within their supply chains.
Final Call for Brand Participation
This is the final opportunity for brands and manufacturers to register interest before the next stage of the project formally begins.
Organisations looking to:
- Divert non-rewearable textiles responsibly
- Explore alternative fibre applications
- Reduce reliance on virgin raw materials
- Strengthen their circularity credentials
are invited to engage with the project team ahead of the next development phase.
