Roberts Recycling unveils textile-based MDF prototype on Earth Day 2026

On Earth Day, 22 April 2026, Roberts Recycling showcased a new material innovation that highlights the future of circularity in fashion and textiles.

Developed in partnership with Fab Materials, the business has created its first prototype MDF product made using 30% recycled textiles.

The initial application, a coffee table, has been produced using material derived from end-of-life textiles processed at Roberts Recycling’s facilities.

The project marks an important step in demonstrating what is possible when the industry begins to rethink waste as a resource.

Every week, Roberts Recycling handles millions of items from fashion brands, providing a unique vantage point on the scale of textile waste and the growing responsibility placed on the industry to manage it more sustainably.

As volumes increase, so too does the need for viable, scalable circular solutions.

This prototype represents an early-stage innovation, but one with significant long-term potential to divert textiles from disposal routes and reintroduce them into the supply chain in new forms.

Simon Roberts, Group Managing Director, commented:

“On Earth Day, it feels fitting to showcase what’s possible when we start to rethink waste. This is just the beginning, but it shows how end-of-life textiles can be transformed into new materials with real-world applications.”

Roberts Recycling continues to work with fashion brands to deliver reuse-first, circular solutions for surplus stock, supporting partners in reducing waste and unlocking new value streams.

The business is now inviting brands and partners to engage in conversations around material innovation and the future of textile reuse.
