At Hope Academy in Newton-le-Willows, fashion became a powerful vehicle for environmental awareness as 29 students took to the runway at Hope for the Earth 2026, showcasing an extraordinary collection of garments created from reclaimed textiles.
Delivered through a partnership between Roberts Group International (RGI), St Helens Council, Seamster & Shepherd and Hope Academy, the project brought together textile reuse, practical skills development and creative expression, giving students the opportunity to explore sustainability through fashion.
From Reclaimed Textiles to Runway
The project began with students exploring the world of textile reuse and recycling, including a visit to RGI’s headquarters in Widnes, where they experienced textile sorting and processing first-hand before selecting materials for their designs.
Working alongside the expert team at Seamster & Shepherd, students participated in hands-on upcycling workshops, developing skills in sewing, textile crafts and garment construction. Using non-wearable textiles supplied by RGI, they began transforming materials that could no longer be worn into something entirely new.
The collection was developed around endangered habitats, with each student creating a fashion statement piece representing an environment under threat. Through their designs, students explored the relationship between fashion, textile waste and the wider environmental challenges facing our planet.
A Runway with a Message
The finished collection took centre stage at Hope for the Earth 2026, Hope Academy’s wider sustainability showcase, where the students presented their creations on a fashion runway alongside inspiring dance and music performances by fellow students.
More than a fashion show, the event provided a platform for young people to communicate important environmental messages through creativity, craftsmanship and performance.
The garments demonstrated how reclaimed textiles can become a source of inspiration and opportunity, challenging conventional perceptions of waste while highlighting the potential of reuse within fashion and design.
Partnership, Creativity and the Next Generation
The project reflects the impact that collaboration between education, local government, textile reuse and creative industries can have in developing meaningful opportunities for young people.
For Roberts Group International, supporting initiatives like Hope for the Earth is an important part of demonstrating how textile reuse extends beyond collection and processing. By connecting materials with education, creativity and community engagement, we can help inspire a new generation to think differently about textiles and their potential.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Hope Academy, whose enthusiasm and commitment were instrumental in bringing the project to life, alongside our partners at St Helens Council and Seamster & Shepherd.
Above all, we congratulate the 29 students whose creativity, talent and dedication produced a collection that was both visually striking and deeply meaningful.
Hope for the Earth 2026 was a powerful reminder that the future of sustainability belongs to the next generation, and that sometimes the most important messages are delivered not through words, but through what we create.
