Jimmy Moutray stands outside New Mersey Retail Park in Speke, Liverpool. Green North West Cancer Research clothing banks and the charity’s mascot are shown nearby.

Jimmy Moutray, North West Cancer Research: So we’re down here today at the New Mersey Shopping Park, otherwise known as Speke Retail for most people in Liverpool. The bank has just been recently installed, and it’s fantastic for our charity because this is such a prime location in the Merseyside area.

Visitors place bags of unwanted clothing into the charity clothing banks. Representatives from the three partner organisations stand together beside the banks.

Jimmy Moutray: You know, everybody’s got cupboards full of old clothes they don’t really want, they don’t really wear anymore. And for all the donations that we get here, we can turn that into money that turns into life-saving cancer research here in the Liverpool and North West regions. For a local charity like ourselves to be able to take advantage of this space and allow the local community to donate their clothes, to be able to save local lives, it’s just fantastic.

Russell Hall speaks outside the retail park. Cutaway views show the banks, their charitable messaging and a visitor making a donation.

Russell Hall, British Land: I represent a company called British Land, who are the landlords of this site. We’re very keen to work with the local community. We’ve been in discussions with Roberts Recycling for a while now about putting some clothing recycling bins on here as well. The tie-in with cancer research has really worked for us as well, so nothing goes to waste. So, yeah, I’m really pleased to have these recycling bins on site.

The video returns to the group and shows a close-up of the clothing banks.

Russell Hall: It offers the opportunity for the local community, or anybody who’s got any old clothing that they would normally throw in the bin, that they can go to a good cause by being recycled here.
